Paulina Govea-Alvarez is an FWO PhD candidate in chemical engineering, working on space applications through a collaboration between VITO and Ghent University. Her research develops innovative technologies for sustainable space exploration, with a particular focus on the emerging field of in-situ resource utilisation of space resources. She has twice presented her work at Space Resources Week Luxembourg, an international conference attended by experts from NASA, the European Space Agency and other leading agencies and industry players. In 2024 she received the Research Impact Award at Ghent's Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Research Symposium in recognition of the societal relevance and impact of her work. Her interests lie at the intersection of chemical engineering, space resources, biomaterials and sustainable technologies for future space missions.
