Francesca Vanoverberghe is an R&D engineer at VITO, specialising in sustainability and circularity in the construction sector. Combining hands-on experience in sustainable building projects with research and policy development, she works on the methods, tools and legislation that reduce the environmental impact of buildings and accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral Europe. She contributes to the Belgian TOTEM tool, which measures the environmental impact of buildings and is increasingly embedded in Belgian legislation. She also works on European research projects linking circularity strategies to measurable CO₂ reduction, and contributes to the PEFCR4Space project developing sustainability-assessment rules for the European space sector. Through her work she aims to turn sustainability from an ambition into a natural reflex within construction.
