Caroline Baeten studied Criminology at KU Leuven before starting her career at the Belgian Department of Justice and later moving into business, helping scale two Belgian startups. In 2020, working from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, she set out to find where she could make the most meaningful impact and landed on fashion — the second most polluting industry in the world — and on circular, rental-based systems. In 2021 she founded Dressr, Belgium's first curated fashion rental platform, built from Antwerp and partnered with over 70 European fashion brands. In five years the platform has facilitated more than 28,000 rentals, kept 13 tonnes of clothing out of production and avoided over 200 tonnes of CO₂. She speaks on circular fashion, impact entrepreneurship and the financial realities of building a transition business in an industry resistant to change.
