Basile de Gaulle is a designer and co-founder of Maximum, the Paris-based studio he launched in 2015 with Romée de la Bigne and Armand Bernoud, after completing a Master's in Design from ENSAD (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs). Maximum designs and produces furniture using production offcuts, heritage fragments and materials rejected by industry, exploring the aesthetic, technical and economic possibilities of passive production. In 2020 the studio expanded into Maximum Architecture, partnering with architect Manon Leconte on the Papillon project, which reuses 200 original glass panes from the Centre Pompidou's "caterpillar" escalator. The group's latest venture, Tissium, develops a rigid material made from shredded clothing for industrial use, aiming to depollute at scale.
